After years of not having health insurance, we got Obamacare last year. Thank God for the national healthcare reform! Since the age of 15, I had no health insurance. At 12 years old, I was diagnosed with PCOS {Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome} and it went down in my public health record permanently. This meant I would be in and out of doctors’ offices until they figured out a way to “fix me” and cool. The adolescent medicine department, prepubescent gynecology division, pediatricians for the impossible. Ugh!
By the age of 15, when the health insurance renewal rolled around they said will miss you but we think it’s for the best to not reinstate your insurance. Great! I had to grow up and figure it out on my own. I didn’t know what to do but I sought out the help of the good old Internet and my older cousins help. I spent the next 10 years going to Planned Parenthood for my annual exams and going to out-of-pocket doctors’ offices for my routine visits. And, when I say out-of-pocket, I mean out of my very own pocket from the little jobs I had as a teenager.
I was an idiot overall but I understood the importance of medical care at this young age but no insurance would accept me with a hormonal pre-existing condition. I assumed all responsibility for the payments and the cost of healthcare that were associated with PCOS. Overtime I also sought out for therapeutic help in order to find healing and recovery from my eating disorders and addiction.
Fast forward 5 years of sobriety and abstinence, Obama really worked in my favor fighting for the healthcare form in the name of Jesus. I spent all this time struggling and spending so much money with no end. I thought I was stuck in this cycle but there is a way out of the healthcare black hole.
Do you have healthcare with Obamacare? If you don’t support the healthcare reform act, you can stop reading here because this is clearly not for you. I understand and respect your beliefs. And, you probably have healthcare somehow…
Thank God for Titi Lisa! I say that so often that it’s like a “thing” I say. Haha. She got me connected to the Hernandez Insurance Group in Miami and they got me hooked up right away. I sent them the previous year’s tax returns for our family and gave them some important pieces of information such as social security, birth date, address, etc. Within a week, I had insurance with full coverage. We are part of Blue Cross and Blue Shield through Florida Blue. We have no copay at regular check-ups or specialists. We have NO deductible! And, much more.
I’m no insurance agent but I have my own personal experience with the healthcare marketplace and it’s easier than you think. If you feel you have the time to get on there and do it yourself, you can! I was just scared to go on there and be denied for my pre-existing condition. Turns out the law is serious about not discriminating. And, they can help you, too.
XO
