We love to use pink salt to enhance flavors in our everyday cooking and rainbow peppercorns to kick everything up a notch. Grinding a bit of each onto every dish at every meal every single day sort of became tedious. Like everything in life, we sought out to find a way to bridge the gap. What better way to add fresh flavors of herbs and spices to the foods you prepare and cook than a homemade Pink Salt & Rainbow Pepper Mix.
Thanks to West Elm and their generous gift card to us as home owners, we were able to buy a beautiful mango wood salt cellar with copper hardware. It was the perfect place to store freshly ground salt and pepper. We used pink Himalayan salt from Hawaii and rainbow peppercorns from Melbourne. Using two separate grinders, my wife and I each used our elbow grease to the fullest potential! We filled up a bowl with our ground spices and sifted it into our container with a funnel.
Believe you me, our hands were so sore afterwards. The reward certainly paid off. Now we have our beautiful wood cellar on the kitchen counter full to the brim of our Pink Salt & Rainbow Pepper Mix. Any time we need a hint of this or a dash of that, we just swivel open our spice container {yeah, it swivels—super cool} and grab a pinch with our fingers.
