Let’s talk about our family File Organization System. Getting organized can be tough especially while juggling a very busy life. Sometimes papers can pile up in a basket or the corner of our desk and if one of us doesn’t put a stop to it right then and there, it can go on forever. We have a mail basket conveniently located in the kitchen. It’s basically a white washed wood pallet chalkboard sign with a chicken wire nest in the front. We put all our letters in there when we first get home. Slowly, all our papers migrate to the home office and collect themselves around the printer. Again, this could have gone on for days if we let it.
One day, we decided to relocate the home office and we had to open up the filing cabinet to reveal the ugly, ugly truth. What a freaking mess! Our personal documents and papers were an absolute disaster. The labels were uncoordinated, some of our hanging files were broken, papers were filed incorrectly. Just pure chaos. We knew we needed to make labels for different things and rescale how we had our files places. We needed some for home, business, health, car, travel, school and one for each person in our house (yourself, spouse, pet, children). That’s when we set out for a new family File Organization System.
Like every project, we started off at the local dollar store to grab some supplies. We found cute and decorative file folders at the Dollar Tree which were perfect for reorganizing our family files. They had cool designs and they came in packs of 5, 8 or 10 depending on design. We also snagged some hanging file folders made out of recycled brown grocery bags. We love stuff like that so it was super win. For the labels, we already had a ton of different shapes and sizes at home for this.
